Gina Pariser received her PhD in Exercise Science from the University of Tennessee in 1989 and her BS in Physical Therapy from Louisiana State University in 1997. She has served as a faculty member in exercise science and physical therapy programs. Presently she is an associate professor in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Bellarmine University, where she has been since 2005. Dr. Pariser teaches courses in exercise physiology, health promotion, anatomy, and research. Dr. Pariser’s clinical experiences have focused on physical therapy management of patients with diabetes and health co-morbidities that limit their mobility and capacity for exercise. She developed a diabetes self-management program for people with diabetes and mobility impairments called Active Steps for Diabetes. The program is an academic-community program involving Bellarmine University and community entities that provide health care for predominately low-income and ethically diverse populations at high risk for diabetes. It is a unique model for physical therapy practice in tertiary prevention. |
