Upcoming Opportunities for Elected Positions

Below is some general information about our elected positions.  We would love to have you involved.  Visit our Volunteer Opportunities Website to read about upcoming vacancies in elected positions.

Call to Serve

Nomination Process

The Section on Geriatrics Nominating Committee invites its members to answer the call for Nominations for an elected position in the Section on Geriatrics. Answering the call to serve for your professional organization on a national level can seem very overwhelming and intimidating. In order for our profession and Section to meet the challenges of this every-changing health care environment, members must be willing to give their time and talents to Section activities. Our organization needs strong, proactive leaders to guide us through the changes.

Serving as an officer or board member offers one an opportunity to help shape the future. It provides exciting networking opportunities to work with the "best and the brightest" in our profession. You may have the skills to serve the Section but need more information about the time commitment.

Time is a very valuable commodity for busy professionals. So for potential candidates there are two important questions to address in considering the challenge of running for office.

  • What are the duties of the office?
  • What is the time commitment for this position?

These two questions can best be answered by consulting the Section bylaws, present officers, and board members.

Time Commitment

All officers, Board of Directors, and Nominating Committee members serve three years which begin at the Combined Sections Meeting in February 2005. These individuals are expected to attend meetings throughout CSM and Annual Conference. Telecommunication and correspondence is required periodically throughout the term of office.

Current Financial Assistance from the Section

For Section duties there is reimbursement for telephone/postage and support from the Section Executive Office. Some travel assistance including travel expenses and modest per diem incurred through attendance at CSM and Annual Conference.

To nominate yourself, please carefully review the job description for the position and fill out an application form at our Volunteer Opportunities Website.  To nominate someone else, send their name to a member of the Nominating Committee.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact a member of the Nominating Committee.

Chuck Gulas, PT, PhD, GCS, Committee Chair
Lucy Jones, PT, GCS
Judith C Canfield, PT, EdD
