The purpose of the HPWSIG
shall be to provide a forum through which individuals having
a common interest in providing Physical Therapy services
to promote health and wellness among older adults may meet
and promote care/intervention through education, clinical
practice and research.
Health Promotion and Wellness is a rapidly
growing industry and Physical Therapists are ideally trained
to be leaders in our communities. The Health Promotion and
Wellness Special Interest Group of the Geriatric Section
was created to provide a forum where therapists having a
common interest in providing Physical Therapy services to
promote health and wellness for older adults in their communities
may meet and promote quality care/intervention through education,
clinical practice, and research.
Members of the HPWSIG
contribute articles to Gerinotes highlighting therapists
who are developing wellness practices. The SIG also develops
a program highlighting health promotion and wellness for
CSM. We are currently in the process of improving communication
with our members by investigating the development of a HPWSIG
listserv and improving the content of our website. There
are many opportunities for leadership in this young SIG,
so please consider getting involved!
