Health Promotion & Wellness SIG
SIG Description

The purpose of the HPWSIG shall be to provide a forum through which individuals having a common interest in providing Physical Therapy services to promote health and wellness among older adults may meet and promote care/intervention through education, clinical practice and research.

Health Promotion and Wellness is a rapidly growing industry and Physical Therapists are ideally trained to be leaders in our communities. The Health Promotion and Wellness Special Interest Group of the Geriatric Section was created to provide a forum where therapists having a common interest in providing Physical Therapy services to promote health and wellness for older adults in their communities may meet and promote quality care/intervention through education, clinical practice, and research.

Members of the HPWSIG contribute articles to Gerinotes highlighting therapists who are developing wellness practices. The SIG also develops a program highlighting health promotion and wellness for CSM. We are currently in the process of improving communication with our members by investigating the development of a HPWSIG listserv and improving the content of our website. There are many opportunities for leadership in this young SIG, so please consider getting involved!

  • 10/1/06 The Section on Geriatrics Health Promotion and Wellness Special Interest Group has developed a PowerPoint presentation that can be used by Section members.  We hope you will use this PowerPoint whenever you have a chance to educate consumers about the importance of physical activity.  You can couple this presentation with APTA's "Fitness for the Young at Heart" Brochure, which can be printed and copied for free by visiting www.apta.org and clinking on "Consumers," and then clicking "PT and Your Body."  APTA also sells professionally printed copies of this brochure; go to www.apta.org and click "store."  This PowerPoint is free to Section on Geriatrics members- thank you for your membership!  Please do not make changes to the presentation.  If you believe changes should be made, please contact the SIG Chair. Download Here
    • To accompany the PowerPoint presentation, we have created two consumer brochures.  Please feel free to print these, copy them, and hand them out when you make your presentation.  Both of the below documents are the same, except one leaves space for you to put your business card.  You can tape your card in the space provided, make copies in black and white or color, and distribute them to attendees.
