Special Interest Groups (or SIGs) in the Section on Geriatrics
were created so that members who have a passion or interest for
a certain topic can share information, work to advance practice,
and raise awareness about the topic in the general PT population. Membership
in SIGs is a benefit of Section membership: all Section on Geriatrics
members may join for free.
To join, simply send an e-mail to geriatrics@apta.org including
your full name or APTA ID, and which SIG(s) you would like to join.
SIG members are encouraged to contact the SIG Chairs with their
ideas, or if they are interested in volunteering in the SIG.
The standing rules for the Balance & Falls SIG, the Health Promotion & Wellness SIG, and the Bone Health SIG have each been changed to allow for:
- staggered terms of SIG chairs
- online elections for all SIG officers that will coincide with the Section of Geriatrics’ Board Of Directors elections in the fall every year
More specifically The new standing rules will alter the elections of SIG chairs as follows:
New SIG Chairs will hold a 3 year term and be elected in the follow year:
B&F: Beginning in 2010, each chair will serve a 3 year term, and all positions will be elected very three years (e.g. 2010, 2013, 2016, etc.).
BH: Beginning in 2011, each chair will serve a 3 year term, and all positions will be elected every three years (e.g. 2011, 2014, 2017, 2020, etc).
HPW: Beginning in 2012 all positions will be elected every three years (e.g. 2012, 2015, 2018, etc.).
