Foundation for Physical Therapy profiles SOG Member

Dr. Judith Burnfield, PT, PhD, director of the Institute for Rehabilitation Science and Engineering and the Movement and Neurosciences Center at the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska, combined her interests in physical education and engineering to ultimately create a lifelong passion for physical therapy. Burnfield was awarded two Promotion of Doctoral Studies (PODS) I Scholarships from the Foundation in 1998 and 1999 to help fund her post-professional doctoral studies in Biokinesiology at the University of Southern California. Funding from the Foundation helped Dr. Burnfield to concentrate on developing her research skills, which in turn opened up great opportunities for her later in her career, including the research and development of an innovative piece of rehabilitation equipment called the Intelligently Controlled Assistive Rehabilitation Elliptical (ICARE).

NEW! University of Minnesota Geriatric Clinical Residency Program in Minneapolis, MN

A credentialed residency or fellowship program promotes standards of quality and consistency in the teaching and practice of physical therapy. Through their voluntarily participation and adherence to the requirements of the credentialing process, these programs confirm to potential residents or fellows their commitment to providing quality learning experiences by meeting established criteria. Additionally, completion of the credentialing process is an affirmation to the public at large of the Program’s commitment to the protection of the consumer of physical therapy.

Section on Geriatrics Partners Program

Come partner with us to further our members ability to provide best practice physical therapy and to advocate for optimal aging!

Who is Eligible for Partner Status? International physical therapy professionals, other American professionals not eligible for APTA membership, industry partners, and members of the public are encouraged to join as Partners of the Section. When you join the Section on Geriatrics , youâ€™ll join an active network of physical therapy practitioners, educators, and researchers dedicated to the advancement of evidence-based physical therapy in order to improve care and quality of life of aging adults. Application for the SOG partners program does not guarantee partnership. All applications are subject to approval by the Section on Geriatrics. Refund of fee will be made if Partners application is not accepted by the Section on Geriatrics
